Every where you look their are ads, protein products, and fitness trainers directing you to what they believe if the perfect protein powder "made just for your needs". But, how many of the hundreds of protein powders that are out their. Most of the time they advise by what they see on the product label!
To start,we need to understand what protein is, how much we need daily and which product is the best for me...and me alone!
Let's get into this. Protein is an important component of every cell in your body. Hair and nails are mostly made of protein and your body uses protein to build and repair tissues. You also use protein to make enzymes, hormones, and other body chemicals. Protein is an important building block of bones, muscles, cartilage, skin, and blood. Unlike fat and carbohydrates, the body does not store protein, and therefore has no reservoir to draw on when it needs a new supply. So, how much is actually needed?
According to the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services:
Teenage boys and active men can get all the protein they need from three daily servings for a total of seven ounces.
Kids require approximately three daily servings for a total of 6 ounces
Teenage girls and women require three daily servings for a total of 7 ounces.
How can we guarantee that any of us is getting the correct amount of protein needed in our daily nutrition? Quite honestly, I don't have an answer for you about that question, but I can tell you what I do.
